The Tallahassee Leon County Shelter

In 2011, Callie Currie (aka SWOON) came to Tallahassee as a visiting scholar and lecturer through FSU, with the added intent of completing a community-based project. We were fortunate enough to be able to assist in a very direct way along with other MFA candidates as part of this project at the Tallahassee Leon County Homeless Shelter ("The Shelter"). We crafted an early game plan and we set about demolishing a storage building, doing landscaping, planting gardens, and clearing fences in preparation for Callie's visit. During her stay for a few weeks in late 2011, and another week in 2012, we accomplished a great many things including a stage/platform, new bike racks, and a sleeping gazebo (in addition to numerous other improvements to rainwater drainage and aesthetics).
